An update to the system software for PlayStation 4 systems was released on 28 October 2014. You can use this to update your system software to version 2.0.
A system software update for your PS4 system is required to use PSN features and some features on your system. Also, by updating the system software of your PS4 system, you can enjoy various additional features and enhanced security. We recommend you always update to the latest version.
Main features in system software update version 2.00:
Players in a party can now use Share Play.
With Share Play, two PSN players in the same party can share a game screen. The host (the user who initiates Share Play) and the guest (the user who joins Share Play) can play the same game together while watching the same screen, or the guest can take the place of the host and operate the host's game screen.
To initiate Share Play, select [Share Play] from the party screen. Use of some features requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
Video clips can now be uploaded to YouTube.
You can now set themes for home screens and function screens for each user. Themes can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. Select themes in [Settings] > [Themes].
You can now play music stored on USB storage devices. Connect a USB storage device containing music files (MP3 or AAC) to the PS4 system, and then select [USB Music Player] from the content area.

Share:
The following features have been added to [Live from PlayStation]:
You can now view broadcasts from the past.
Broadcasts can now be filtered by language. With the list of broadcasts displayed, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Language].
You can now follow your favorite channels or broadcasters.
[Featured) has been added. You can browse broadcasts such as PlayStation®-recommended broadcasts, broadcasts from Friends, and broadcasts you follow.
[Games] has been added. Broadcasts for each game are displayed.
Twitch icons can now be displayed in comments.
The following settings have been added to broadcasts. With the Share menu displayed, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Share Settings] > [Broadcast Settings] > [Advanced Settings]:
You can now display messages to spectators.
You can now include party voice chats in broadcasts. A player's voice will be included only if the setting to allow the player's voice to be broadcast is enabled in the party settings.
You can now adjust settings such as size, background, and effects of video content from the PlayStation Camera.
When you select [Upload Screenshot] from the Share menu, you can now attach a screenshot to your message.
You can now trim your video clips in [Capture Gallery].
Settings:
You can now set the length of time your controller will charge while your PS4 system is in Rest Mode (formerly known as Standby Mode – see below). Set the time in [Settings] > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Rest Mode] > [Supply Power to USB Ports].
[View Guide] and [Commands for Voice Operation] have been added to [Settings] > [System] > [Voice Operation Settings]. You can view a list of details and hints about operating the PS4 system with your voice.
[Input Device] and [Output Device] have been added to [Settings] > [Devices] > [Audio Devices]. Also, [Output to Headphones] in [Settings] > [Sound and Screen] > [Audio Output Settings] has moved to [Settings] > [Devices] > [Audio Devices].
[Mouse] has been added to [Settings] > [Devices].
Other:
Names of players you may know can now be displayed in areas such as your Friends list or under What's New. You can set whether to display your real name and profile picture to other players you may know in [Settings] > [PSN] > [Privacy Settings] > [Connecting with Friends] > [Players You May Know].
You can now search for players by entering their real names in areas such as [Friends]. You can set whether to display your real name and profile picture in other players' search results in [Settings] > [PSN] > [Privacy Settings] > [Connecting with Friends] > [Search].
You can now record a voice message by pressing the Triangle button in the [Messages] screen.
The layout of the [Party] screen has been improved.
The number of content items displayed in the content area has been changed. Content items that are not displayed can be reviewed in [Library]. You can review all content items in the content area by removing the checkmark from [Limit Number of Content Items on Home Screen] in [Settings] > [System].
[PS button] now appears in some notification messages. You can view details about a message by pressing the PS button when the message is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.
When you connect a new device to your system, you can check the remaining battery charge in the system message that is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.
"Standby Mode" has been renamed "Rest Mode".

Note:
Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS4 system software.
Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PS4 system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PS4 system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PS4 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.

Update Methods
You can update the PS4 system software by any of the methods described below. To confirm that the update was completed successfully, once the update process is completed, go to the function screen and select (Settings) > [System] > [System Information]. If the version number of the system update file you used for updating the system is displayed in the [System Software] field, this means that the update was completed successfully.
Update using the Internet
Use your PS4 system's network update feature to update the system.
The following things are needed to perform the update:
PS4 system
Internet connection (wired or wireless)
Before using the network update feature, you must configure your PS4 system's network settings. For details, refer to the user's guide for your PS4 system.
On the function screen, select (Settings) > [System Software Update]. Your system automatically checks over the Internet whether you have the latest version of the system software. If there is an update file for a later version, it is downloaded to the system. When downloading is complete, a notification message is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. On the function screen, select (Notifications) > [Downloads], and then follow the screens to perform the installation.
Update using a disc
Use an update file contained on a game disc to update the system.
The following things are needed to perform the update:
PS4 system
A disc that contains an update file
When you play a disc that contains a later version of the system software, a screen is displayed to guide you through the update process. Follow the screens to perform the update.
Update using a computer
This update method can be used if your PS4 system is not connected to the Internet. Download the update file to your computer, and then save it on a USB storage device. Copy the saved file to the system storage of your PS4 system to update the system.
For the standard update procedure, follow the steps below.
The following things are needed to perform the update:
PS4 system
Computer connected to the Internet
USB storage device, such as a USB flash drive in FAT32 format.
* There must be approximately 300MB of free space.
1) On the USB storage device, create folders for saving the update file.
Using a computer, create a folder named "PS4". Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE".
2) Download the update file, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder you created in step 1.
Save the file with the file name "PS4UPDATE.PUP".

3) Turn off the power of your PS4 system completely. Check that the power indicator is not lit. If the power indicator is lit orange, touch the power button on the PS4 system for at least seven seconds (until the system beeps a second time).
4) Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4 system, and then touch the power button for at least seven seconds. The PS4 system starts in safe mode.
5) Select [Update System Software]. Follow the screens to complete the installation.
If your PS4 system does not recognise the update file, check that the folder names and file name are correct. Enter the folder names and file name in single-byte characters using uppercase letters.
In rare occasions, you might need to initialise your PS4. To initialise your PS4 system and perform a new installation of the system software, such as for when you replace the hard disk drive, follow these directions.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be careful when using an update file for reinstallation. All users and all data will be deleted. Remember to back up your saved data before using this option. How to back up your saved data.
