"Cranford, which like its successor Potomac will use the Twin Castle chipset, is now expected in the first quarter of next year.
The Cranford chip will be aimed at the value end of the four processor market - this is Intel's answer to the four way Opterons from AMD. The Potomac processor will have 1MB of L2 and 8MB of L3 cache on board."

"Cranford and Potomac chips arrive - they will use the 604 pin socket. Both are multiprocessing chips at 90 nanometres, both have 1MB of level two cache, but the latter has 8MB of level three cache.
And both will use a 667MHz front side bus, rather than the 400MHz system bus that the Gallatin MPs include. µ"

"Though he presented nothing much new that Intel hasn't already disclosed publicly, we can expect a big push into dual-core mainstream processors in 2005"
"Intel expects 100% of its IA-32 server chips, and over 50% of its notebook/desktop CPUs shipped in 2006 will be multi-core (dual-core). While Itanium CPUs do not implement Hyper-Threading currently, multi-core Itaniums will comprise over 90% of shipping Itaniums in 2006.

"Intel Corp. in early May, 2004, set plans to release microprocessors with two processing engines, or cores, for desktop, mobile 2-way server and high-end MP server computers in 2005."
"Even though it is logical to expect Intel to offer dual-core chips for desktops, mobiles and servers that share the same micro-architecture, Intel’s official declined to comment on architecture-specific questions. There are rumours that all chips are to feature Pentium M-like architecture."

Intel satsar rejält på Itanium 2005.
"Intel Corporation on Thursday unveiled revamped specifications of its code-named Montecito processor due in 2005. As expected, the chip will have two cores, but will incorporate spectacular 24MB of L3 cache"

2006-2007 kommer 16 core CPUer.
"In 2006 or 2007 Intel is expected to release Tanglewood, the monster with up to 16 cores, a lot of cache memory and a high clock-speed. The core may be as advanced as next-generation IBM’s Power or Sun’s UltraSparc microprocessors or even faster, I suppose."
fler CPUer än AMD men tjänar 50ggr mer än AMD vilket ger ca 5ggr högre vinst per
CPU än AMD.
