Final Fantasy Versus XIII [PS3]

Tetsuya Nomura, director of the upcoming Final Fantasy Versus XIII, has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 exclusive outing will feature a world map and airships.

Not everything is connected together, so the various areas have different levels of progress. However, you can fly across the world map in an air ship,” said Nomura, during a Twitter interview with Square’s Shinji Yoshimoto.
Unfortunately, Nomura was unable to divulge any further details on the project, stating, “I’m being stopped by producer Hashimoto,” he said.
Fingers crossed the game shows up at E3, though don’t be surprised if it doesn’t put in an appearance on account of recent changes made during development.

- The movement of the clouds in the game are controlled by the physics engine in the game.

- Battles are seamless. The only loading in the game will occur when moving between very large areas. They're aiming for the ultimate in seamlessness.
- Objects along the paths of roads can be destroyed.
- Most people will not believe their eyes when they see the high quality of the battles in motion.
- The staff are highly motivated now.
- There will still be improvements and more polish on the visuals made, the visuals in the screens are the game running at the moment.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that development on the PS3 exclusive’s scenario has wrapped, meaning the game’s story and script is now complete.

Speaking to Japanese publication Dengeki, Nomura also confirmed that the firm has finished work on the RPG’s character design, and promised fan will be able to catch a glimpse at some of them soon.

With the game absent from E3 a fortnight ago, we’ll hopefully see something on the game at September’s Tokyo Game Show. Fingers crossed.

"Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase has conceded the developer is unable to commit to whether or not Final Fantasy Versus XIII will see a Japanese release in 2011.

Chatting with the folks at GamingUnion at GamesCom last week, Kitase commented, “We have no release date information to update.”

Versus XIII has endured a lengthy development cycle and has made little in the way of public appearances as of late, last cropping up in trailer form at Jump Fiesta back in December. An E3 re-reveal was apparently on the cards at some point, though this failed to materialise.

Kitase is currently involved with PSP Parasite Eve spin-off The 3rd Birthday alongside fellow Versus XIII dev Tetsuya Nomura, with the game due out in Japan this winter."

That’s according to Tweets from series character designer Tetsuya Nomura, who revealed that the games will form part of a short, combined showcase apparently cobbled together at the last minute.

The Japanese giant said earlier this week that it couldn’t commit to a 2011 release for the PS3-exclusive Versus XIII, with the game itself having not shown up since Jump Fiesta back in December last year.

Square will be displaying a number of its hottest games at TGS, including The 3rd Birthday and Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded."

* The actual battle screen in the final game will show character names.
* Some areas regarding how the battle screen shows commands will probably change for the final.
* Magic has different effects depending on the character who uses it.
* A young blonde male character shown in the magazine's screenshots is good with guns. He alone has aiming controls and can aim for enemy weak spots.
* When other characters use guns, they have just a normal lock-on.
* The game has a large number of weapons. Main character Noctis can use them all.
* Your battle party can have up to three members. However, the members who aren't taking part in the battle will join in on conversations.
* There are more party members than the four shown in the magazine. However, the game doesn't have a massive number of party members.
* Main character Noctis is not "cool." He's just a normal youth. He feels "I am strong," but he's not as strong as he thinks.
* Some segments of the trailer show natural landscapes. These are like the fields you encounter in other games. The game will have time progression: morning, afternoon, evening and night.
* Contrary to some theories, the dragon rider character who appears in the trailer is not heroine Stella. Nomura says he wouldn't show Stella in such a state. The character you see in that sequence is an enemy.
* You can steal army vehicles for your use. You can ride air ships, cars and Chocobos.
* The blonde character shown in the trailer is Noctis's friend. The other two characters are friends from Noctis's childhood. The person with glasses is like Noctis's tactician.
* You'll recall that someone in the trailer says "You're not fit to be king," or something to that effect. This statement is not directed at Noctis. (I think everyone assumed it was!)
* Nomura says something along the lines of: This year, we have Type-0 and XIII-2, so please forget about Versus for a while. He asked that people be patient and understand that they're trying to do something incredible.
* At the earliest, we could see more from Versus XIII at E3.

Square Enix developer Tetsuya Nomura has told Final Fantasy fans anxiously awaiting news on the release of mysterious PlayStation 3 exclusive Versus XIII to forget about it for now.

The game will take more time than Type-0 and XIII-2, he explained to Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation (translated by Andriasang), because Square Enix is trying to do "a number of incredible things".

This is something he hopes players understood from the Japanese-exclusive trailer, released last week as part of a Square Enix Tokyo press conference.

Given Type-O and XIII-2 are slated for release this year, Nomura's comments suggest Versus XIII will launch during 2012 at the earliest. Our next update on the game will come at the earliest at E3, Nomura told Dengeki.

Little is known about the action-RPG, despite the fact it was first announced in 2006 alongside sister title Final Fantasy XIII.

The main character is a chap called Noctis Lucis Caelum. He's a prince, and is quoted as saying, "Fools set the rules in this world. Just take a look around. It's Undeniable." Cheer up, mate.

Noctis is said to have great physical ability and a secret power that only the royal family possesses. During combat commands for Magic, Item, Summon and EX-ARTS are available.

Combat is party based, granting players control over a maximum of three characters at a time. During early parts of the story the game will swap party members in and out for you. However, as you advance in the story, you'll be able to freely switch out members.

Interestingly, the game has a realtime event system that seamlessly transitions attacks and other gubbins into the flow of gameplay. Examples given include a plane crashing into the road and a beast attacking when Noctis reaches a bridge.

Development of this aspect of the game takes a long time, said Nomura.
