I've bought a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard and a Core i5 processor and I was wondering how to best attach it to the Antec 300. I got some gold screwes inside the Antec300, but I was wondering about the plastic, white, pins that I've seen used to mount motherboards. Why are they used and should I go buy some? Here's a picture of the motherboard with the holes marked. The 4 holes around the processor are missing on the Antec300. I'm guessing they are used to mount the fan on the cpu?
This is how I see the motherboard being mounted in the Antec:
Using the golden pins + screws to tighten the motherboard should be fine as well, right?
Also, a question about the two optional front fans. I don't know if the motherboard can power four fans, so I was wondering if there is some device I can buy to power it off of the PSU? I'm using a Corsair 550W VX
you are right, line up the motherboard with the standoff holes (= golden pins) and fix it with some screws (9x in total) on the motherboard tray.
Also, the 4 holes around the processor, you mentioned, are only for installing a CPU fan. Thus, these 4 holes aren't necessary on the Antec 300.
Regarding the optional front fans, you can try to obtain wired switches (4-pin MOLEX to 3-pin power connector) to connect the fans to your motherboard instead to the PSU in general.
