Corsair HX620 buzzing/coil whine

Hello!

I've had my Corsair HX620 since 2009-05-16 and I have been happy with it ever since. I had a bit of coil whine from my computer from the beginning when I had the 8800 Ultra GPU in my system and I always thought it came from the graphics card and since I bought it used it didn't do anything about it. Later I changed it to an XFX 5770 and I still had a bit of coil whine but it was much less than before and I assumed it was the GPU causing it.

Last monday I installed my brand new Asus GTX 660 Ti DC2 GPU and directly noticed coil whine when running a heavy 3D application. I assumed it was the GPU again and called Alina Systems to get it replaced but then I did some more research and after several minutes of having my ear to the computer I've found out that it's the power supply causing the noise.

Other hardware in my computer is:
Intel I7 920 C0/C1 stepping @ 3.2GHz
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Corsair 3x2GB 1333MHz RAM
WD Caviar Black 640GB
Intel X-25 M G2 80GB
Asus GTX 660 Ti DC2
Zalman MFC-1 Plus fan-controller

I read on your website that you have a limited lifetime warranty. Is this problem included in that warranty? It's obviously a problem that has been there from the start but I have always thought it was some other component causing it and therefore I haven't done anything earlier. Is there any way I can get the power supply repaired, exchanged or if the warranty doesn't cover it, is there any way I can fix it myself with some glue (I have a basic knowledge of electronics safety)?

If you need any more information feel free to ask here in the thread or send me a PM.

Try enabling Vsync in your graphics card driver, as that can often help.

If you want to get it replaced then, given the age of the product, I'd suggest you request an RMA through the Corsair website: http://www.corsair.com/support/technicalsupport/

If you have any problems with that then ping me a pm. (y)

Gareth.

I have now enabled Vsync in the Nvidia control panel. I'll tell you about the results tomorrow. Hopefully it works, otherwise it seems like I'll have to find a new PSU to use while I send my HX620 on RMA.

How long time does an RMA usually take? Do I pay shipping fees? Do I have to pay any RMA-fee? Do I send it to some place in Sweden or to some place in America?

You do pay shipping to us, and we pay shipping back. Unfortunately, that does mean shipping to Almere in The Netherlands. As I say, if it doesn't look like it will work out for you, let me know and I'll figure something out.

Okay, I tried enabling Vsync in the Nvidia control panel yesterday. It didn't improve anything but I did get another sort of coil whine for a few seconds that was louder and sounded different from the usual coil whine. It didn't stay long enough for me to hear if it was from the PSU or the graphics card.

Is it 100% sure that coil whine is covered by warranty and that if I send it on RMA to Almere in the Netherlands I will get a new PSU? I don't want to send it there only to have it sent back and wasting lots of money on shipping fees (which could be spent on a new PSU instead).
