New Home Server for Blue Iris + VMs + gaming

Dear Sweclockers,

does this look like a good setup for a 24/7 home server running Blue Iris (with Deepstack), several VMs (Home Assistant, pfsense etc), Kodi media server + some occasional gaming? Would you suggest any improvements to either option? (I'm not considering AMD CPU, as I need iGPU with Quick Sync)

OPTION 1:
CPU: Intel i5-13400
MB: Asus Prime B660M-A D4
RAM: ADATA XPG Spectrix D60G 2x8GB 3200MHz RGB
GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070 8GB
SSD: Crucial P3 1TB M.2 NVMe
PSU: Asus TUF Gaming 650W 80+ Bronze
COOLING: Deepcool AG400 ARGB Black
CASE: Zalman i3 Neo 4Fans FRGB Black ATX TG
OS: WIN 11 PRO

OPTION 2:
CPU: Intel i5-13400
MB: MSI H610m-e PRO DDR4
RAM: XPG Adata Spectrix 16Gb DDR4 2x8Gb 3200MHz
GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070 8GB
SSD: Kingston NV2 1Tb M.2 NVMe
PSU: Xilence 750W Performance A+III 80+ Bronze
COOLING: Xilence LQ240mm water cooling
CASE: MSI Mag Forge 100R
OS: WIN 11 PRO

Please feel free to respond either in English or in Swedish. Tack så mycket!

Several VM´s, with 16gb ram in the machine?

I wold go for a dual cpu setup instead, maybe a older refurbed machine with at least 64GB (or more) in ram.
No redundancy on the disks at all in your examples.

A older Dell server with 128gb ram and two cpu´s running circles around the ones you have in the example can be bought for the same money, or less.

Many thanks for your response! I may have exaggerated by saying "several VMs". In fact, it's more like running various software in a virtual environment (e.g. docker containers or Home Assistant in WMware ESXi). A regular desktop should be able to handle all that, even with 16Gb RAM.

Any comments on either of the options? Any improvements possible?

I don´t really see why you should buy a 13400 cpu and use 16gb ram only? Ram is cheap, fill it up! 😁
If you dont have the money, step down the cpu a bit and throw in more memory.
Kodi wants 4-8gb to work properly, home-ass at least 2gb, 4gb is good and 8 is better depending on how many units connected and the automation beeing done with it. Pfsense, at least 2gb.
Yeah, kodi can roll on 2gb, pfsense works at 1gb, home-ass can work with 512-1gb - but it wont work good. If Kodi runs a cronjob indexing your movies and due to that home-ass takes 8 seconds to reply and Blue Iris has a 4 second gap in recordings (I'm exaggerating of course, but not far away) 😁

You are peaking the 16gb limit already with the VM´s alone, add Blue Iris to that and its over.

Type or brand of the motherboard, brand of the storage and so on doesnt matter much if they dont provide any function or support you absolutely need.
You need computing power, speedy drive(s) and ram. Thats it.

If you are stuck with any of these, add ram. Step down the cpu if needed, just add more ram.
I would go with at least a mirrored setup on the NVME´s, if you dont need the space go with 2x500. Depends on how important the stuff you are going to store on it is.

Hardware on both machines looks good in my opinion for what you need it for, ram and single drives is the only thing i have opinion about.
It´s possible to argue that one of the motherboards are better than the other, or the PSU is better on one but it won´t matter for what you are going to use it for, at all.
Cooling, type of NVME, color of the motherboard and so on is on you, take what you think looks good and the preferences you have on noise from the machine. Performance wise its not much difference between the 2 in your listing.

I havent started a game on my computer since 2001 so the gaming-part of the machine is not my cup of tea.

Thank you so much for your kind help, sir!

32Gb RAM + RAID1 mirror with 2 SSDs it is! Also, ended up upgrading to i5-13500 as the price difference was small compared to extra performance.
