vad är VFD

Vacuum Fluerecent Display. Basically it works the same as your CRT monitor. The front side of the display has a very high voltage and at the back of the display are the filaments. When the filament shoots out the electrodes they will be sucked up by the high voltage on the front part of the display and you will then see the light produced by that collision. Same happens inside that regular monitor you may have but while the monitor have only one electron cannon and the stream is deflected by magnetic fields the VFD have one "cannon" for each pixel so you don't need to use magnets.

So the VFD pixels produce light on their own. LCDs are backlit so the pixels will block the light coming from the back and for pixels this way so the VFD is much brighter and the contrast of the pixels is much higher.
