etiketter på dvd

det här skriver verbatim om etiketter på dvd skivor

Q: What is your recommendation for labeling DVD media?

A: Officially, Verbatim does not recommend applying paper labels to DVD media. However, we do know that many users do label DVD without any problems. Due to the nature of DVD technology as opposed to CD, a misaligned label could adversely affect recording and reading of DVD media.

och detta om deras skivor...

In an effort to offer DVD media at the lowest possible price without sacrificing profit margins, some disc manufacturers do not test their media. Purchasing these discs can actually be more costly for two reasons: the discs may be unusable from the outset or they may cause the loss of data that cannot be reproduced.

Inconsistencies in DVD media may occur in many forms. For example, discs that are thinner than the DVD technologies specify and discs with physical defects such as pit distortion from short manufacturing cycles can result in unusable discs.

Other irregularities, such as an unbalanced disc can cause a reduction in recording speed. A properly balanced disc is essential to enable maximum throughput. Disc imbalance can be caused by a variation in the thickness of the substrate, disc coating or the DVD bonding layer.

Verbatim research shows there is a strong correlation between the sputtering process and DVD disc quality. The bonding process also affects DVD disc quality. As a result, discs must be inspected after bonding to ensure that tilt and other defects have not been introduced.

The stability of the recording dye used to produce DVD+R and DVD-R discs is also critical because the dye can be degraded by heat and UV light. Degradation is even faster when humidity and oxygen are added to the equation.
