"We have an issue with some retailers who have unwittingly sold pirated copies of Football Manager 2005. We discovered this issue the fm2005.exe on the pirated CD's are not copy protected. The FM2005 patch is. Therefore it took releasing the patch and having people not be able to get it working to find out that there was a problem, which we originally thought was copy protection/emulation based. However, having now been able to compare the pirated CD's with normal ones, and having had the pirated CD's analysed, we now know that there are pirated CD's out there being sold not just to customers but also to retailers believing they are the real thing. They aren't, have not come from us, Sega, or any of our legitimate distributors.
If you think you are affected, then as we said we would suggest getting in touch with the retailer who sold the game to you, and asking for a refund or replacement, then buy one (if online) from amazon.co.uk, play.com, gameplay.com or any of the major retailers that we always recommend.
However, we would be very grateful if you can take photo's of the CD and packaging first, and then send those photo's to "piracy(at)sigames.com" as has been requested, along with the details of where you bought the game from (which many of you have done already).
As for the people who say that it was the best-pirated version they have ever seen, we can only agree. However, there are subtle differences - if you want to check whether your version is pirated, the only way to do so is to send a photo of the disc to the piracy email address, and someone will get back in touch with you and let you know (we know what we're looking for, but will not publicly reveal as we don't want the people pirating knowing the mistake they are making).
