Quasi-resonant power supplies?

What is this thing called 'quasi-resonant' ?
Are there any power supplies featuring this? If so, which? If not, then why not?
When can we expect power supplies featuring such technology.

What do you think of quasi-resonance?

Hi!
Quasi-resonant is converter technology. It will reduce the power lost in switching mode.
This technology can help to reach a higher efficienca, i would say up to 88-89%. But this efficiency we also reach already, even without DC-DC design. Our CM 700 can reach 88% without problems.
Quasi-resonant converter are good in low wattage PSU and they also reduce the EMI.
On the other hand the quasi.resonant converter creates high frequency which is not good.
I don´t know exactely if somebody uses this in ATX-PSU but I guess not.
The main point of this technology is the efficiency but this can be reached already and more than 90% is also no problem today. So there is no real advantage to use such technology and change the designs of the PSU.
I am also not sure about the costs and the availability of these components.
For a mass production they need to available at every time in high quantity.

As I know, this kind of technology could be useful for PSU in all kind of Consumer products. For a lot of products you know exactely how much power it needs.
An ATX PSU of 700W for example is sometimes used with 120W, then 246W, then 543W etc.
But some products have a nearly fixed consumption of power. Maybe it can be useful there, especially when the consumption is not that high.
