Vad har inte Ubuntu som Windows har? Ett väldigt konstigt problem

Jag har ett väldigt konstigt problem med min dator. För två veckor sedan hängde sig windows xp. När jag startade om datorn blev det artefakter på skärmen och efter några rebootningar hängde sig datorn varje gång innan jag kom in i operativsystemet. Jag försökte installera om windows xp men installationen hängde sig alltid vid 35%. W7 testades också men hängde sig även det under installationen, lyckades installera den helt och hållet men då hängde sig systemet snabbt efter boot. Och så fortsätter det... Det mest lyckade försöket var med en "egen skiva" med XP där installationen lyckades och även operativet laddades. Problemet här var att systemet hängde sig, det kunde gå 2 minuter eller 1 timma. Det slog aldrig fel.

Ubuntu har däremot fungerat i stort sätt felfritt, någon enstaka hängning med liknande symptom men inte alls i din grad som i windows XP/7. En intressant iaktagelse är att när jag kör spotify under Windows hänger sig datorn antingen under installationen eller när jag ska logga in på mitt spotifykonto. Det slår aldrig fel! Jag testade även spotify under ubuntu med hjälp av wine och det blev exakt samma symptom. Inte en lyckad inloggning utan att systemet hänger sig! Officepaketet under ubuntu genom wine led lite av samma symptom. Det verkade som att windowsprogrammen även hängde datorn när de kördes i ubuntu.

Nu undrar jag - Varför fungerar Ubuntu så pass mycket stabilare än windows? Vad är det som egentligen som kan skiljer operativsystemen åt? Jag misstänker att det är någon hårdvara som är inne på sista sucken men att ubuntu inte reagerar lika starkt som windows. Någon som har en aning om vad som är trasigt?

Hade ett liknande problem med en laptop för ett tag sedan, jag tror att det hade något med ACPI att göra då även Linux kraschade på samma sätt om man mixtrade med det, olika OS verkar hantera det lite annorlunda.

För att spinna vidare på den här teorin så använder sig Linux av en äldre version av ACPI har jag för mig. Det är antagligen något hårdvaruproblem du dragit på dig, har svårt att se något annat.

Pröva att köra memtest en gång.

En sak jag kommer på sådär på rak hand var något jag läste för ett tag sedan.

Linux är mindre känslig mot minnesfel (dåliga sektorer osv) på grund av att det kan känna igen och kringå dem. Vet inte om det gäller alla versioner/distributioner, är verkligen ingen expert och har precis börjat ge mig in på området själv.

Att minnet gav upp kan vara en orsak till ditt plötsliga hårdvaruproblem, byt ut det (eller använd bara 1 sticka i taget om du har 2) och testa! Memtest är ju såklart ett självklart val om du känner för det.

Jag gick runt och trodde att Linux var mer känsligt mot minnesfel. Brukar inte Linux kasta ut Kernel Panic så fort någonting inte står rätt till, medan Windows tuffar på och låtsas att allt är okej tills man sitter där med en korrupt data på hårddisken?

både ja och nej, har inte undersökt saken, men skulle TRO (bara "tro" här inte "veta") att pga att mycket av datan checksummas så har man en större säkerhet, och sedan så har vi swap, så om något går fel, så läser den av swapen för att se om var fel.

Dock så tror (bara "tror" inte "veta") jag att Kernal Panic är lita stora problem oberoende på OS...

tänk även på att Linux bara är ca ~10 Mb (Ex. extra moduler) stort jämfört med NT som är betydligt större (eller?... har för mig att NT är närmare 64Mb eller något o_0 ). detta KAN leda till GNU/Linux system är stabilare...

om någon kan peka oss med någon undersökning skulle det vara kul..

Oavsett vad så verkar trådskaparen onekligen lida av minnesfel, fixa det så fungerar båda OSen lika bra ...

Du skrev att du fick artefakter det drar mig åt att det är nått fel på grafikkortet.

Minnena på grafikkortet kan ha gått sönder eller att grafikkortet går för varmt har du kollat så fläkten på grafikkortet fungerar?

Jag kan nu meddela att datorn har genomgått 8 timmar memtest86 utan några anmärkningar. Jag har även tagit ut minnena och testat dem en och en. Ikväll kommer dock den slutgiltiga dommen då jag får två nya minnen att testa med.

Beträffande fläkten på gkrafikkortet måste jag kolla upp det. Det är ett Intel GM945 (det handlar om en bärbar dator) och det borde inte bli varmt.

Saken är den att datorn ibland även hänger sig när man startar den vid hp-logon trots att den är kall, dvs grafikkortet har inte haft en chans i världen att bli varmt. Mystiken tätnar... Jag ska ta en extra titt på grafikkortet när jag byter minnena.

Felet kan bero på att hårddisken har skadade sektorer. Kolla hårddisken med tillverkarens diagnosprogram. Skadade sektorer på Windowspartitionen påverkar naturligtvis inte Linux.

Hmm nej då har inte grafikkortet hunnit blivit varmt. Det är jue dessutom integrerad intelkret. Dock kan jue själva grafikdelen vara defekt för det. fagerja ja hårddisken kan det jue faktiskt också vara.

Nu har du iaf uteslutit minnena.

Vad är det för laptop du har? Vissa märken/modeller har vissa egenskaper som gör att de får vissa specifika fel. Det råkar inte vara en IBM T4x?

Vid formatering märks inte alla fel på hårdisken, testa program som är gjorde för att hitta hdd fel.

Mega läser du ens innan du börjar klanka ner på linux? Det är ju så att hans dator fungerar i linux men inte i Windows.

Iofs har han rätt i att Linux äter hårddiskar, om de inte fixat den buggen (vilket jag nästan förväntar mig att de gjort).

Nu har jag:

Kört memtest86 på minnena i datorn, avaktiverat det trådlösa och kört trådat, bytt minnen, kört diagnostiseringsprogram på hårddisken (som gav resultatet "0x00", vilket jag antar är "inga problem", har inte hittat en förteckning över felkoderna) och jag har hittat... Inget.

Går det på något sätt att testa grafikkortet (Intel GM945)? Då artefakter uppkommer misstänker jag att det kan vara boven.

Testa att köra med Ubuntu tills datorn hänger sig. Då startar du om datorn och går sedan in i System->Administration->Loggfilsvisaren.

Där letar du fram vilka de sista posterna var som lades till innan datorn startades om. Har du tur kommer du direkt kunna se vad det var som blivit fel. Om du vet tidpunkten för senaste felet så kan du kanske redan nu gå in och se efter om det finns något.

Spekulation...
Skillnaden i stabilitet kan bero på att Intel har öppna drivrutiner till Linux vilket gör att det är lättare för utomstående att finna och kringgå kända hårdvarufel.

Intel GM945... delar inte det minne med systemet? Altså, det har inget dedikerat videominne?

Hade liknande problem på ett Nvidia 9400 mGPU kort (också delad RAM) där jag fick artifakter på skärmen efter allt ifrån en minuts användande till flera timmar. Har kört memtest (olika typer) i totalt 48 timmar på maskinen utan att hitta ett enda fel, dock plockade jag ut 2x1GB och allt fungerade som det skulle. Bytte ut resterande 2x1 brickor med de jag tidigare plockat ut och problemen kom tillbaka - fortfarande utan att några memtesters hittade fel.

Provade slutligen att köra memtest på grafikkortet (vilket egentligen bara är en del av system minnet) genom ... OCCT tror jag ... och den spydde ut fel som fan när jag hade de "felaktiga" brickorna installerade.

I slutändan köpte jag nytt RAM bara och allt har fungerat fint efteråt. De "felande" brickorna har jag installerat i en annan maskin där allt fungerar som det ska.

Hade liknande problem på ett Nvidia 9400 mGPU kort (också delad RAM) där jag fick artifakter på skärmen efter allt ifrån en minuts användande till flera timmar. Har kört memtest (olika typer) i totalt 48 timmar på maskinen utan att hitta ett enda fel, dock plockade jag ut 2x1GB och allt fungerade som det skulle. Bytte ut resterande 2x1 brickor med de jag tidigare plockat ut och problemen kom tillbaka - fortfarande utan att några memtesters hittade fel.

Provade slutligen att köra memtest på grafikkortet (vilket egentligen bara är en del av system minnet) genom ... OCCT tror jag ... och den spydde ut fel som fan när jag hade de "felaktiga" brickorna installerade.

I slutändan köpte jag nytt RAM bara och allt har fungerat fint efteråt. De "felande" brickorna har jag installerat i en annan maskin där allt fungerar som det ska.

Jag har 8 st 512 MB-SO-Dimmar hemma. Ska försöka med några till imorgon för att utesluta minnesproblem igen. Intel GM945 delar minne med systemet, jag hade inte ens tänkt i de banorna.

Min röst faller nog på att hårddisken sjunger på sista valsen. Hade liknande fel på min gamla stationära, den hängde sig i tid och otid, körde dualboot och den var aningens stabilare i linux men någongång hängde den sig redan innan den börjat boota och jag var helt säker på att det var minnena. Varken memtest eller samsungs hårddisk test visade på något fel.

Tillsist bytte jag hårddisk och efter det blev den som ny._
