"RTS as a Sport" COLUMN
- Similar multiplayer to previous C&C games
* Up to 8 players
* Free-for-all mode
* Team games
* Minor modifiers: Starting cash, random "bonus boxes" (crates) spawning on the map
- Innovation comes in the form of broadcasting multiplayer matches
* Matches can be viewed in real-time or with an anti-cheat delay
* Those without the game can download a free client to watch matches at no cost
- More than one commentator can join matches (Team commentators may rise, perhaps, as seen on sports shows?)
* Commentators can use the "telestrator" tool in order to paint/point out important points on the map
* At the end of each match, observers can actually "rank" the commentator; this will allow commentators to gain a good (or bad) reputation to aid with their popularity
* Commentary is an excellent way to help watch matches, learn the game, etc.
- All broadcast matches will be stored on an EA server - voice commentary and telestrator marks included.
- C&C 3's web interface will allow scheduling of matches up to days and even weeks in advance
* Tournaments can also be managed
* Developer and player blogs will be viewable
- The website, overall, works almost more like an application than a web page; it's well done
- IMPORTANT QUOTE: "Props to EA for creating the best multiplayer interface to date."
