Feedback on P193 case

Hey and welcome Antec, I'm a fan of your products and have been for three cases (6+ years now).

I recently purchased a very sweet P193 case and went ahead and crammed it full with components, among which is the Corsair H50 Hydro CPU Cooler. The H50 cooler requires replacement of the back 120mm fan, all good but Corsair provides new screws to go with this solution as there is a new 120 and the cooling tank to fasten to the back of the new fan.

Those screws are the problem, the heads of the screws make it impossible to close the case given that the right side plate (with the 200 mm fan) has a fairly large enclosing fold of metal hugging the back of the case.

Of course, it is impossible for Antec to forsee these things but you may want to consider non-standard screw heads and allow for a bit more space (seeing some cutouts maybe to allow for screw heads at that position)?

My options are to grind the two rightmost screws down a bit in size (not a good idea) or file off about 2 mm of the case plate to allow for the protruding screw heads. If you wish it, I can provide a picture of the problem itself. There will be a blog eventually (sometime this week) on this site featuring this case and the components I put into it. The blog will be done in english for multiple purposes.

Other than this, thanks for a excellent case. Very quiet, very cool and so much space I felt like moving in there myself.

Best regards,
Lan

Also had the same exact same problem. I mounted the radiator at the top front 140mm fan position instead and put a 120mm fan there instead since the 140mm fan did not fit there. The memory and some capacitors were in the way on the motherboard.

Lan, please post a picture on your solution, if and when you solve it.

Lan, I noticed that problem too with the H50, and I decided to mount the radiator in the top hard drive cage, as intake with push-pull fans, it's a little hard to install but it works great

The way to install it this way is to remove the hdd cage, put the screws in the holes (on the fan), mount the fan on the cage with the included fan-mounting kit, then you have to mount the radiator to the fan with screws like this:

If you wanna use push-pull you gotta use 2 screws for each fan (since they only include 4 screws).
The screwing is pretty much a blindfold job, which is why this is a bit tricky.

Note:
If you wanna use push-pull you wont be able to use a long graphics card (the one in my pic is a 8800GTS and there isn't a lot of space left).

Interesting that others on the forum had the same issue, instant confirmation. The H50 is a cool bit of kit that appeals to many and has sold quite a bit I imagine.

@Lurifax, thanks for the tip but I will most likely use a dremmel and take off two mm of the side plate cover for each screw head.

Airflow is pretty optimal given the 120 blowing into the case from back, through the radiator and sucked out instantly by the top two fans. I monted my spare 120 from the rear at the front of the upper HD cage to blow cool air over HD and my GPU. The GPU then gets air from the large side fan and front (slightly warmed by my HD's). I have another spare fan (A noctua) if I think the GPU gets too hot but that's unlikely given this awesome case.

Lan,

Maybe when you have mod the case you could put some pictures here? So we get to see how you did it?

Absolutely, I just haven't had time yet. I don't get home until 6-7 pm usually and it's a little late to start tooling with things like this (apartment housing). Will probably have to wait until the weekend.

Come monday you will have pictures, that's a promise.

Hey Antec, blog is up but I haven't had time to work on a solution. I am hoping to have time this Sunday for some tooling.

Here's the blog for now, I will inform you when it's updated with the minor mod.

Not finished, I hope to do it this sunday. What I will do is grind 2-3 mm off the back plate to allow for the screws. Simply do some cutouts. I hope to have the minimod done this sunday and have pictures up.

This topic did get a bit of interest.
