Problem med NVidia drivers till Ubuntu x64

Har tjorvat fram och tillbaks med det här ett bra tag nu, och jag är inte så haj på Linux, så jag skulle uppskatta om någon kunde hjälpa mig...

Jag kör med Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn x64 och försöker installera dom senaste beta drivrutinerna till mitt GeForce 8800GTS (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.06-pkg2.run). Jag följer instruktionerna noga, har ändrat i xorg.conf, stänger ner X servern, installerar, startar igen. Än så länge är det inga problem, jag har bild, 3d accelerationen funkar osv.
Problemet kommer när jag startar om datorn, för då får jag ingen bild alls. Det enda sättet att få tillbaka bilden är att kopiera tillbaka en backup kopia på xorg.conf så att den inte använder nvidia drivrutinerna vid nästa omstart.

Jag klistrar in lite loggar här nedanför då jag inte har någonstans att ladda upp dom.

Har du kernel-headers/source installerade? Helst ska man inte installera nvidia drivrutinerna med installern utan installera från repository och det borde finnas något tredje parts repository som har den drivrutinen.

njao. bästa är väl att kompilera själv men för enkelhetens skull så slipper man lite huvudvärk om man installerar från repon.

gör en backup på xorg.conf. /etc/X11/

gå till system-->administration-->Restricted drivers manager.

här kan ubuntu 7.04 installera kortet automatiskt.

Ifall installationen misslyckas och du inte kan starta x så byt ut xorg.conf mot din backup

Edit: inte säker på att ubuntu installerar senaste drivarna dock.

Tack för hjälpen.
Jag använder inte repositoryt därför att dom senaste drivrutinerna inte finns där (100.14.06).
Den där guiden verkar vara precis vad jag behöver. Den skiljer sig också ganska mycket från guiderna som finns på ubuntus och nividias sidor...

Edit:
Jag har följt alla instruktioner i den där guiden, men jag har fortfarande samma problem. Den hjälpte alltså inte...
Alltså, jag har ingen bild när datorn startar om, och jag hör inte heller trummorna från loginskärmen (vilket jag gör utan nvidia drivrutinerna). Jag prövade ändå följa steg 16/10.

Edit 2:
Jag misstänker att mitt problem kan ha något med att mitt 8800GTS listas som "Nvidia Corporation" "Unknown Device" när jag kör lspci. Kan det spela någon roll?
