Another Asmedia question (AHCI)

Thanks for helping me earlier with the Asmedia USB 3.0 question. I am still working with installing my drivers on this fresh Windows 8 system. Now, my question is about the Asmedia AHCI driver. I got one disk (for files, Music, Movies etc) on the Asmedia port on my mobo. The disk is already plugged in, and I have not yet installed the Asmedia AHCI driver for it. Do I need to install the driver? If yes - should I plug out my disk, Before installing the Asmedia driver? Do I risk messing things up if the disk is plugged in during the installation?

If I understand correctly, you have an external USB 3.0 harddrive connected to you computer and have not installed some drivers? If that's the case then you shouldn't need the AHCI drivers since AHCI is specific to the SATA-interface.

If it is a SATA drive you are talking about then yes, you should install the drivers, and no, it shouldn't matter wheter you have the drive connected or not. Might be more convenient to leave it plugged in if it is already so, so you don't have to open up your computer chassis.
