DDR2 överklockning forskning

Hej!!

Following writing will be wrote in English
I am still studying Swedish and are not confident at writing in svenska yet (hope that's ok) would like to become part of the community

Wanted to share my findings with testing various DDR2 Sticks
I have been overclocking for many years

As most of you know Micron/Crucial Ruled the DDR2 scene
Everyone wanted to have the Crucial D9GMH / D9GKX ICs in there system as they easily broke past the 1200mhz speed barrier

Whilst I really enjoy overclocking the Cruical D9 chips I wondered how other manufacturers did.
For high frequency
CL4 Performance at 800+
Voltage scaling etc.

So I'm going to share my findings in this thread with everyone and maybe if you wish you can test memory you have and share your results

I am testing memory from
Samsung
Micron
Nanya
Promos
Elpida
Hynix
Quimonda
PSC / PowerChip

Both OEM sticks (Random green sticks you find in any pc) and branded stuff like Corsair etc etc.

Technically, sure, people might be interrested in your findings, but since DDR2 is'nt really used in any consumer products, the real world applications and benefits to such testings are not really relevant anymor

I might be wrong though, it has happened before

Edit: Sure, in retro-computers I guess they are still used, so for those out there building those, it might be very interresting

Hi thanks for replying. Yeah I'm basically doing this for Retro Overclocking purposes as a fun passtime. As i do semi- professional Overclocking on 775

If anyone is Dailying A DDR2 system today then please don't. 😬

Which are some of the best 2 Gbit ICs, would you say? I just noticed that I have like 40 2 GB modules sitting around that I've been collecting to upgrade systems (which never happens since no one uses DDR2 systems anymore).

Would NT5TU128M8DE-AD be Nanya D? I have quite a few of those. Also some ACBG.

Any idea how Nanya D compares to other ICs in applications that care about latency? Those timings don't seem the best, even if the speed is high.

Yes those are Nanya D die
Nanya D and Samsung E die seem to be about the best when it comes to raw frequency on 1 Gigabit. But the need to be on the right PCB which is rare. OEM Samsung and nanya PCB pretty much caps at 1250-1300mhz and ideally you want single rank sticks

Most 1 Gigabit ICs even good bin ones won't make it much past 1200-1250 MHz Cl5-5-5
Need CL6 or Cl7 to go higher

Do keep in mind I can get performance to be better by running the performance level and FSB higher to get latencies down. The AIDA 64 test is irrelevant because of this as all of the motherboard settings for memory were ran loose. I have personally got the latency down to 55ns which is fast considering IMC is on the NB and not the CPU
