Samlingstråd - fästen till TV (diskussionstråd)

If I recall correctly, the minimum distance between two mollys in gypsum should be 20 cm. So you will have to do a bit of measuring. Personally I would have gone for 4 toggle bolts in the blue circles and then 2 mollys in the top green circles plus 1 molly in the bottom red circle.

Hej, which option do you recommend ?

Blue Circle - Metal Studs location
Green & Red Circle - Single layer gypsum wall

Option 1 - 4 toggle bolts in Blue circles & 6 mollys in Red & Green circle

Option 2 - 4 toggle bolts in Blue circles & 2 mollys in Red circle

Option 3 - 4 toggle bolts in Blue circles & 4 mollys in Green circle

<Uppladdad bildlänk>

First of all Tack for your kind suggestions !

After reading & considering your comments, here's what my plan is -

I plan to use 4 T-anchors in the metal studs. Ideally these should just suffice, however for extra protection I will use 3 mollys (2 on the top part & 1 in bottom of mount) in the drywall as I do plan to pull out the TV and use it.

I will put a tiny camera inside the wall to make sure no pipes etc. are getting hit.

I will put double the TV weight & leave it overnight.

For extra protection I have the drull insurance & also the premium insurance from LG.

The T-anchor is this one -

Molly this one -

Overloading is a good plan! That makes it way more safe. Keep in mind to load it a bit away from the wall to simulate where the load from a TV would be

Drill the first hole near center (one of the molly holes) and then use camera before drilling more holes (just to make sure). A stud/electrical-finder can be useful before this hole is drilled just to be sure. Also it takes a while to make a hole in a metal pipe, just stop drilling and look in the hole if there is any weird resistance

Doing it the way you are suggesting will be way more than minimum requirements, i dont think you will have any issues

Even skipping the studs completely would probably be sufficient (using mollys instead) or using just the stud mounts. Better to be safe than sorry though

Yes, I do plan on using the stud finder also to be sure before drilling holes. And it's always good to be safe than sorry. Good thing is C2 77" is just 20 KGs, so not like a typical LED or C1 weight which are really heavy.

I would never dream of wall mounting my 77B1, sure it can be done, but i just would rather not get into that

Hey can you share finished pictures of your setup ? Curious to see how it looks from the side & front.

Haha the setup isn't done yet. The hard part is getting the finishing touches done, such as spotlights and cover panels to get everything seamless. This is how it looks like right now.

Some pictures of how it looks like behind. Went for an articulating mount mostly to make it easier to access the ports on the back:

And the front:

It may be quite far away from the wall compared to more conventional mounts and mounting methods, but you really don't notice it whatsoever when you're sitting in front of it all.

Nice job, that looks great!

My main issue with wall mounting is that it is not facing a wall, but rather the back of a cabinet section. I would have to change the entire room to even have the possibility to do it

For me it's a necessity now, given how delicate the OLED is & the big size, I worry someone will accidently hit it when I have lot of people over for a get together or something. The walking passage is right in front of the TV cabinet.

Thank you for sharing the pictures. Very nicely done. While I'm contemplating to use the wooden plank, but given that my TV sits in the living room with the back exposed when you walk towards the living room, it might look messy from the side.

Hence I might go with 4 T anchors in metal studs & 3 mollys as suggested here. Even with full pull out it should be enough I believe.

2 questions -

A) Probably a controversial question, but how high do you mount your TV ?

B) How do you run the wires in the drywall ? I bought this to make a cut (near the TV mount) and then one more cut towards the bottom.

We tried several heights, and ended up with my 77B1 at about 65cm from the floor when viewed from about 2.5m (eye to panel distance).

The bottom of the panel is roughly in line with the seat height of the sofas

I don't run any cables through the wall. It sure looks nice but I'm not sure you are "allowed" to run power cables through the wall as a non-electrician. If something were to happen I think there could be problems with the insurance company.

Alright ! So ran into a major challenge today. Turns out the distance between the 2 studs is 47 CM ! Not the standard 40 CM. Because of this I'm 5 CM short on the length & can't use both the studs.

So I either use only 1 stud OR redo the entire process, buy a new mount & attempt the installation again ! OR put a plywood in between & mount on it as XFTality did.

The journey continues........so does the messy house !

Hey, I might be going down the same route. Few questions I had on your setup, it'll be great if you can answer them

A. What's the thickness & dimension of the plywood ? I have one from Ikea which is 58 x 58 CM and 2 CM thick.

B. You used 10 Molly in drywall & 8 screws in metal stud in total to support the plywood. How about the TV mount & the plywood ? How many & what type of screw did you use to connect the TV mount with plywood ?

C. While connecting TV mount to plywood, did you drill all the way to the drywall or only till the depth of the plywood ?

Many thanks in advance !

I would say:

A: That is plenty
B1: just 6 (or 8 if you want to go overkill) screws total into the studs and you are fine.
B2:Normal wood screws are fine when attaching the stand to the plywood. For example. As long as the screw goes all the way through the plywood and then a little further (for example, 19 mm plywood I would recommend 25-30 mm screws). Then ofcourse add any extra length that is needed due to the thickness of the TV mount. My guess is you could bye 40 mm screws and you are good to go. You should use a:
https://www.biltema.se/en-se/construction/fixing-elements/woo...
or
https://www.biltema.se/en-se/construction/fixing-elements/woo...
depending on how thick your mount is. The important part is that the "screw" part is penetrating the plywood in a good way.
C: No need to pre-drill into the plywood. Just screw it in as it is Unless you are planning on using a VERY thick screw, which should definitely not be needed.

Those plastic anchors are for light duty mounting in bad materials (concrete, gypsum, …). They expand slightly and grip by friction. I would never use those in wood, a normal wood screw holds much more securely

One option would be to mount the tv with a stud near center of the mount. It will hold just fine. Just a matter of if the tv can move 20cm in one direction

Don't use the Ikea one. That is not a good material for this I would say. It is not plywood and will not hold too well. It is simply not solid enough

This is better:
https://www.biltema.se/en-se/construction/storage-shelves/she...

The Ikea one will hold your weight fine, but the screws will not be as tightly secured and could come out. My suggestion is more solid wood and will carry pretty much anything

Pick the one named: SHELF 1000X400X18MM
18 mm thick, and you should not need more then 400 mm high (atleast I don't think so, but it depends on your TV stand)

You will have to cut it to around 50 CM (since your studs are at around 47 cm apart, but you can do that by hand with a saw.

And just add some paint to it when done, and it will not look that bad either

Well that's a bloody good idea ! I just checked, I can actually move the center to right & use ONE metal stud with the center of the mount.

I can use the 3 holes (which are there in the center of the mount & 7 cm apart) with the metal stud, put toggle bolt in all 3. Use 8 mollys in the remaining holes with the single layer gypsum wall.

This can be an alternate to the plywood idea which I'm considering.

Thank you!

Good that I did not start installing the Ikea one That video was very helpful.

I'm also contemplating to go with medbor's suggestion of using one metal stud as the center of TV. For sure it will be less effective as the plywood method, but should be enough for 20KG TV I'm hoping. If not, then a trip to Bauhaus or Biltema has to be done I guess.

The ikea board is ’chipboard’ or particleboard not plywood, not at all as durable or strong, just to make sure you got that. For this application it would probably have been fine, but it is not the same

Also ikea might have hollow centers if you are unlucky with specific parts:

But on the other topic: yes a single stud will easily hold that TV in place, even only the mollys in drywall should suffice on their own really (assuming a pretty slim mounting without a long moment arm, wiki)
