I went hands-on with a prototype version of the headset, trying to get a sense of how it may stack up against Apple’s device. I tried out the Quest 3’s interface, video pass-through mode, software features and gaming capability.

The device, codenamed Eureka, feels far lighter and thinner than the existing Quest 2 from 2020. The strap to place it on your head seems a bit stronger, and it uses fabric on the sides instead of the Quest 2’s plastic.

The front of the device is new. Instead of a bland-looking gray face, it has three vertical pill-shaped sensor areas across the front. The left and right pills each include one color video pass-through camera (the part that lets you see the world around you) as well as a standard camera. That means it has two color cameras versus only non-color cameras on the Quest 2. The middle pill includes a depth sensor, a first for a Quest.

The front lower sides of the headset each include one tracking camera, while the bottom has a volume rocker and a wheel to adjust the headset’s IPD — the distance between your pupils. That’s a big improvement over the Quest 2, which requires you to take off the headset and manually move the VR displays inside of the device. The power button and USB-C port remain on the side of the headset.

The actual clarity and VR displays within the Quest 3 feel similar to those in the Quest 2 — despite the resolution being rumored to be slightly higher. But there are two areas where I saw major improvements: video pass-through for mixed reality and the device’s speedier performance.

Due to the dual RGB color cameras, video pass-through on the Quest 3 presented colors more accurately and offered an almost lifelike rendering of the real world. I was even able to use my phone while wearing the headset, something that often feels impossible on a Quest 2.

The speed of navigating through the device’s interface, launching apps and playing games also felt much improved over the Quest 2. That’s because the headset includes a second-generation version of Qualcomm Inc.’s Snapdragon XR2 chip.

The Quest 3’s hand controllers are redesigned and look similar to the remotes included with the Quest Pro. These components — which are gray to match the color of the headset — lose the large rings on top of the Quest 2 versions. They also lack the cameras found on the Quest Pro controllers. That means the new remotes may have a difficult time determining where they are in space, which could hinder some games. Meta is looking to offset that with various other tracking improvements.

Apple har hittat något sätt ljuga med statistik. Jag vet inte känns som det skulle göra brutalt ont i ögat om det skulle stämma.

SadlyitsBradley pratade om det i sin preview om Bigscreen headsetet... Där är panelen enligt spec uppemot 2000 nits men ändå är upplevelsen enligt Bradley att den är ganska ljussvag, eftersom man tappar ljusstyrka genom en pancake lins och pga att skärmen behöver ju vara släckt långa tider av varje bilduppdatering för att få rörelseskärpa. (låg persistence)

Så jag tror inte vi kommer vara nära 5000 nits till ögonen, men det kanske åtminstone betyder att den inte blir ljussvag

Norm på Tested testade Metas prototyp ”Starburst” med upp till 20000 nits och det verkade inte ge något obehag. Dom jämförde även med taklamporna som låg på runt 10000 nits utan att upplevas som särskilt starka, så antar att det beror på? Mötas av helljus på natten vs. på dagen osv.

Precis, verkar rimligare att det är 5000 nits (peak) före förluster.

Bigscreen Beyond Gets Last Minute Lens Improvements Including Wider Field Of View

Bigscreen today announced the optics have been improved, expanding the field of view from 93 degrees to 102 degrees - placing it between Quest 2 and Quest Pro despite its tiny size. However, this increase won't apply for buyers with an IPD of over 70mm "due to physical size limitations".
The startup has also increased the central angular resolution from 28 pixels per degree (PPD) to 32 PPD, a significant jump over the 22 central PPD of Quest Pro for example.
It also claims the new lenses improve clarity and sweet spot, while reducing artifacts such as blur.
Finally, they support a wider range of IPDs, from 53mm to 74mm via physical lens spacing available from 55mm to 72mm, tailored to each user's face scan.

Dubblad bitrate med Virtual Desktop (400 Mbps)

Virtual Desktop's new update will bring dramatic improvements

A new codec (H.264+) allows a bitrate of up to 400 Mbps for VR games (for all headsets except Quest 1), if your network setup allows it. Air Link is limited t0 200 Mbps by default.
The bitrate limit for desktop-only streaming has also been increased to 100 Mbps (for all headsets except Quest 1).
You can now enable a 10-bit codec option for a better image quality (for Nvidia 1000-series graphics cards and higher).
Virtual Desktop's switch to OpenXR allows you to use passthrough with Quest headsets for the first time. A passthrough-enabled environment has been added to the VR app.
Those with a Quest Pro can enjoy local dimming support for better contrast.
Virtual Desktop now supports the DualSense controller of the Playstation 5.

Pimax fortsätter tyvärr med vr e-waste vad det känns som.

Det är synd men det känns inte som Pimax någonsin kommer vara ett alternativ för seriösa VR spelare.
Finns inte en chans att nån seriös kör spel som tex Ghosts of tabor eller Contractors med deras pjäser på skallen.
Ingen walkabout / golf+ spelare vill stå och titta ner på golfbollen med den.
Ingen eleven table tennis spelare kommer kunna spela med 1,2kg på skallen.

Möjligtvis för sim spelare men här verkar man ju inte få Fov ens som varit Pimax " positiva kännetecken"

Nej dessa headaets är mer för youtubers som säger att allt är amazing bara för att dom får ett gratis ex och exklusiva intervjuer typ MRTV.
Eller folk som vill betala för att vara med och beta testa.
