Nästan hälften av de unga vill hellre leva i en värld där internet inte finns, enligt en ny undersökning.

Forskningen visar att nästan 70 % av 16- till 21-åringarna mår sämre med sig själva efter att ha spenderat tid på sociala medier. Hälften (50 %) skulle stödja ett "digitalt utegångsförbud" som skulle begränsa deras åtkomst till vissa appar och sajter efter klockan 22.00, medan 46 % sa att de hellre skulle vara unga i en värld utan internet helt och hållet.

En fjärdedel av de tillfrågade spenderade fyra eller fler timmar om dagen på sociala medier, medan 42 % av de tillfrågade erkände att de ljugit för sina föräldrar och vårdnadshavare om vad de gör online.

Medan de var online sa 42% att de hade ljugit om sin ålder, 40% erkände att de hade ett lockbete- eller "brännare"-konto och 27% sa att de låtsades vara en helt annan person.

Nvidia chief Jensen Huang has condemned US export controls designed to limit China’s access to artificial intelligence chips as “a failure” that spurred Chinese rivals to accelerate development of their own products.

In strongly worded criticisms of chip policies pursued by successive US administrations, the chief executive of the world’s leading AI processor maker also criticised Washington’s decision to ban an Nvidia product designed specifically for the Chinese market.

He told a news conference at the Computex technology show in Taipei on Wednesday that export controls had turbocharged Chinese rivals, led by tech giant Huawei, to build competitive AI hardware.

“Four years ago, Nvidia had 95 per cent market share in China. Today, it is only 50 per cent,” he said. “The rest is Chinese technology. They have a lot of local technology they would use if they didn’t have Nvidia.”

Huang added: “Chinese AI researchers will use their own chips. They will use the second-best. Local companies are very determined, and export controls gave them the spirit, and government support accelerated their development. Our competition is intense in China.”

Washington’s restrictions on sending advanced AI chips to China have prompted Chinese tech giants, including Tencent and Alibaba, to accelerate their purchases of domestic AI chips. The Financial Times has previously reported that Beijing has issued guidance to its tech companies to buy local AI chips in an effort to reduce dependence on imported technology.

I samband med utvecklarkonferensen Google I/O fick vi veta att den hajpade sökfunktionen AI Overviews (AI-översikter) nu lanseras i Sverige.

Syftet med AI Overviews är att du ska få de mest relevanta svaren på dina frågor direkt, detta tack vare den generativa AI-modellen Gemini.

I ett pressmeddelande lyfter Google fram möjligheten att söka efter ”den perfekta restaurangen” med specifika önskemål om mat, prisklass och tillgång till uteservering. Med hjälp av AI Overviews ska det räcka med en sökning om du är tillräckligt specifik.

Det har tidigare uttryckts farhågor om att den nya funktionen kommer leda till att de flesta sajter får betydligt färre besökare via sökningar i fortsättningen, men den kritiken har avfärdats av Google.
