Is coil whine normal on a gtx 970?

Personally I don't have coilwhine on my Zotac 970.

I'd say that coil whine on ANY modern card today is pretty common. Usually, the higher number of frames and/or combined with load is what will make it squeal like a pig. Some cards are worse than others but in general I think that all cards comes with more or less coil whine today, AMD as Nvidia.

Yes is is very common issue many GTX 970 owners have coilwhine. Also it depends on what hardware people have. Some don't have it.

Also coilwhine can come from bad quality PSU i mean power supply.
I had coilwhine with my GTX 760 when i had PSU "Corsair 520HX " and when i did buy a better quality psu "Seasonic Platinum 660W" i had no more coilwhine .

I'd say that most GPUs all more or less have coil whine. Sometimes you can only hear it when the GPU is rendering a huge number of frames per second though. Limiting the fps to something more reasonable often reduces the noise drastically.

I had quite a lot of coil whine on my ASUS card. It also gave me a lot of interference on my sound card, making it output lots of weird noices in my headphones.

I've got one aswell, I bought it a couple of months ago and no coil whine yet *jinx*

I tried four 970's (Asus Strix), all had serious coilwhine in Chrome and pretty much every single program that draws anything on-screen. Now I have a 980 with coilwhine only in games like Counter-Strike, but not only at high framerates.

I have tried different PSU's and even at a friend's place, so I feel pretty safe claiming that it was indeed the cards that were causing the whine.

Someone have found a fix for the coil whine in Menus. I have not test this, It may not work for everyone.

Go to Nvidias Control Panel. then to 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings -> Global settings, and change "Vsync" to "Adaptive" and "Maximum pre-rendered frames" to 1.

This fix will limit fps in menus and remove the coil whine. let me know if it worked.
