Strange fan noise from my powersupply

Hello!
My powersupply acts wierd sometimes. Its a Corsair vx550w.
First of all, it sounds alote. I thought it was the CPU-cooler so i opened the chase of the computer to listen but i had wrong . I found out it was the powersupply that made these high fan noises.

The powersupply doesnt sound so much when your not doing anything powerful on the computer. Powerful things is like when I play games or use photoshop or any performance demanding thing.

But sometime the powersupply is acting wierd and the fan noise goes up even if I dont do anything powerful and the fan speed is not constant. The fans goes up and then down and back up again completely random and it sounds bad like its broken or something.

Is this type of changing fan speed on the powersupply normal or is it broken or something. My theory of the problem is that the powersupply gets to hot because these problems only appear when the temprature is high in the room just like it is in the summer.

Am i right or wrong ? hope its not a manufacture fault.

My computer specifications is in the signature

PS: My English is terrible. I hope atleast someone can understand something in the text , lol

Well yea, due to temperature the fanspeed increases, is your chassi ventilated enough ? any dust? chassicooling etc ?

Whats your cpu tempareuter in load ?

PS. I remember when other member of this forum got pissed at me for writing a few sentences in english instead of swedish and now everyone is writing in english, shall i mess with you now?....

I think the chassi is enough ventilated and i dont have so much dust, i recently cleaned it. My CPU tempareuter in load is around 50 degress Celcius and Idle around 30-35 degress Celcius.

Could be that heat builds up when the fans run slow, and at a certain time it triggers the high speed on the fan(s).

Hi!

As you know, we are not building the PSU for Corsair, so I don´t know the exact specifications.

It really sounds like a cooling problem. Do you use some case fans? some in the front to get fresh air in the case and some below the PSU on the back to blow warm air out?

I really can not say something about it because I don´t know how the fan from Corsair is controlled. By load, by temperature, or by both, which one is primary, etc.

Sorry for no clear answer. You should contact the Corsair support.

Hello!
Yeah , i have 3 120mm chase fans in my computer. One in the front, one at the side for the GPU and one at the back to force the hot air out from the chase.

I might think the computer stands on a very bad spot because of the fact that i have a very compact computer-desk.

But the strange thing is when the fan speed randomly goes up and down :S
Well, im gonna try to contact the Corsair support.

Thanks a lot for the help

Hmm, the point that the fan speed randomly goes up an down sounds like a defect.
Is it really without any reason like starting a game or something? Just in IDLE mode after some time?

Permalänk

If it is doing it randomly and that you know that you have enough cooling, you better change PSU, or change the fan, or (void warranty) use a fan controller on the fan.

Make sure you have space for heat to go out from the back of the case without hinderance.

That case is a bad cooler and I sugest that you place a fan on the side panel fan mount.

Negative pressure in the case is better than positive so if you add a fan to the panel you might as well change the alrady existing fan on the back of the case to some better.

Ultra Kaze 3000, or some Yate Loon D1SL-12D. or any fan with good CFM value (70CFM+), and try to get some 120x38mm fans, they have better static pressure than the 120x25mm fans in general.
