Nvidia driver overhead problem on older ryzen cpus

I found an interesting video about using older ryzen cpus and new nvidia gpus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLEIJhunaW8

Do you guys know about this?

Should I avoid the 3060 ti & 3070 and go for something like the 5600, 5700xt, or 6700xt with my ryzen 2700?

I'm confused about this since I intend to play at 1440p on a 144hz monitor.

Can someone clarify what this means for someone using a ryzen 2700 like me?

This is the 2nd video they made on this subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G03fzsYUNDU

It seems like it's on medium quality at 1080p, from what I understand or am I wrong?

I'm asking a question, sorry if that wasn't more obvious.

I want to know whether this matters when I have a ryzen 2700 and want 1440p gaming.

Should I get a 3060 ti to pair with the 2700 or go for amd?

I doubt it does much difference on a capable cpu like the 2700.
The higher the resolution and the better the cpu the less difference it makes.

That said, if you don't care about Ray Tracing, DLSS or streaming, you might get more value (fps/cost) with AMD, depending on how outrageous price you manage to get a gpu for of course.

But I wouldn't consider the nvidia overhead a problem with a 2700 for 1440p gaming no. It's really only if you pair a very cheap/old cpu with a very high end gpu.

I see what you are saying, but in the videos they say a ryzen1600, 2600, and even 3600 all have problems on medium 1080p with nvidia newer gpus (3060 to even 3080) while they perform the same and even better on older amd 5600xt for example.

Sure, but with your 2700, which we can say is equal to a 3600, it wont matter. Sure, you might get 180 fps instead of 220 in 1080p medium but that wont matter if you play on a 144hz screen. And also in 1440p the difference is much less, if any, and that was what you was using anyway right?

You can see now what I am describing. The 5700xt does equal to the 3070 at 1080p medium, and 1440p medium.

I don't know if I'll be playing ultra if the fps are this low, so doesn't it make sense to have a 5700xt at this point?

How long will you keep your new graphics card and how long will you keep your current cpu?
Those are two factors to consider.
It might even it self out i mean.

I wouldn't buy a 5700xt. Maybe consider AMDs new cards but either way you'll want to upgrade your CPU eventually if you're looking for above 100 fps to take full advantage of your monitor.

At the prices they are now, maybe 5 years. I had my cpu for only 1 year now.

Maybe I will go for the 6700xt or 6900xt.

I don't understand about DLSS if that would make the fps better for the nvidia cards? The video didn't really go into any of that.

Yeah those tests are most likely without DLSS, hard to say how much the fps would increase with it enabled in a system that's CPU limited. DLSS boils down to fancy upscaling so you'd think enabling it would lead to an even greater CPU bottleneck if the game is rendering at lower resolution. I think(you might want to double check) the DLSS: Quality setting sets the rendering resolution to 1080p if the target resolution is 1440p so perhaps you could use the 1080p benchmarks to get an idea of what you might expect. Although you should probably keep in mind DLSS and raytracing do add a small amount of extra work for the CPU. So they aren't entirely handled by the GPU, I'd guess it won't affect performance much but just mentioning it so you're aware.
