Crysis Reality
Hoppas att denna inte kommit upp tidigare.
Nu vill jag höra vad ni har att säga om detta?
1) COD4 - 17,192 / 138,304
2) Crysis - 721 / 11,550
Numbers speak for themselves. Almost nobody is playing Crysis online. It is also a true fact (based on the traffic on this forum and on other forums) that SP should be similar. When BF2 was released, totalbf2 was avging over 1000+ users/day with a total number of members over 50k alone. That went on for years. Same was the case for forumplanet, eauk forums, and so on. Now look at Crysis. You wouldn't know whether this is some private forum or a clan forum. It certainly doesn't look like much is going on (number of active users = 120?, number of active users in BF2 General Discussion I remember wouldnt be under 400 back in the day).
I have played Crysis all the way in beta, I have played it for weeks non stop. I have filled out bug reports and I did everything in my power to make the MP in that game "playable" and "enjoyable". But like in any other EA title, devs running out of time to meet EA's deadline, NONE of our suggestions were taken into consideration and here we go, we have a Crysis MP that's the same version as the BETA 3 months ago (even they are not denying this).
Let me tell you one thing, playing both games (COD4 and Crysis), Crysis is a complete failure and will not live up to its hype. It is infact the biggest investment failure Electronic Arts has ever had. I have been closely watching game-monitor for stats and the number of players playing the game at no point exceeded 1,000 users yet. Can you believe that? This is THE CRYSIS after all, the game that was advertised THE fps of the history of gaming. What happened? A big huge failure.
I remember the day BF2 was released. For months, there were a minimum of 20k people playing it (there were days the number would reach 100k and above).
When you release a game, you need to take a lot of factors into consideration. Making fancy graphics, cool animations will help your game to be played in single player maybe more than once, but that's it. Multi-Player is what makes the game a "legend". Crysis will never be that game. They missed the boat, that ship has sailed. No matter how many patches they release, no matter what they do, the number of people playing the game will not exceed 1.5k at any time. Why?
1. COD4 and ET:QW were released the same time it was released. Look at BF2. Amazing marketing technique, they released the game in such a time that 6 months prior and after it, no major FPS title was released. The game was such a hit, even after 3 years of development and no support or whatsoever, it is still considered the best competitive multiplayer first person shooter of all times.
2. In SP, even though Crysis may have the advantage in graphics, the storyline is MUCH and MUCH MORE realistic in COD4. The SP takes you in such places that you would never imagine, the way the game was designed, dynamics, script, the interaction, the game logic is so greatly designed, it applies to a broad range of users with broad range of hardware specs. The game runs amazingly nice at max settings. Even though people think that it isn't as good as crysis graphics wise, even my 8800 GTX and OCed Q6600 has trouble running it at some maps. The graphics are so detailed, i honestly LOVE playing it. The important thing is, it's also good with medium or low settings. You can play COD4 in a laptop with medium settings and get great fps.
Look at crysis, look at all the bugs, all the 64 bit, dx 10, crash, low fps, vsync, blur, and so on bugs. I have a Q6600 running at 3.8 Ghz, 8800 GTX at 621/2205, 2 GB DDR2 RAM running at 1033 MHZ, and I cant run Crysis at maximum settings. I CAN, but it runs like crap, I don't consider it good unless I get at least 40 fps.
When you play SP of COD4, you get emotionally attached. The sniper mission for example is so good, I want to play it and play it and play it every day without getting bored. The AC-130 mission is so greatly designed, you sometimes forget whether you are watching CNN LIVE's report in Afghanistan or playing a single player first person shooter.
3. Multiplayer in Crysis is horrible. No matter what they do to that game, it will NEVER ever come where COD4, CS:S, BF2, ET:QW is. Even devs admitted in numerous occasions that the game was designed to be a SP game, not MP. Well that's your mistake. You design the MP aspect first, you get the engine, the netcode, the balance, the physics working, then you can do whatever you wanna do with SP. The other way around does not work and this is a very good example.
Game modes in COD4 is so greatly designed and so balanced, you won't be complaining much about campers/padders/exploiters/cheaters because there aren't any. You can't camp, it's not possible due to game logic. Padders and exploiters are useless because of the way game ranking works, cheaters can't do much because the game puts SO MUCH player skill forth that a cheater will not survive in a pro hardcore mode server.
And look at Crysis, noobs with vtols, or rocket launcher babies shooting each other's foot, the netcode that wouldn't even make MSN Messenger work properly, which makes people turn and shoot you in the head when you emptied a clip on their back, the rockets that go through cars, the big jeeps that explode when you drive over a small pump, the car that kills you when you get out of it as it goes 5 mph, the noobs that punch you in the face running to you 20 mph, no squads, no UAV, no artillery, NO TEAMWORK or whatsoever, NO tactics, all lonewolf, and there you go, you have the biggest multiplayer failure of FPS history have fun playing Crysis with 721 players.
End of rant.
