Corsair AX760i shutting down and showing wrong CPU temp.
I have a big problem with my AX760i! Without warning and reason the PSU just shuts down like you just pulled the power cord from the socket. Sometimes the computer works like clockwork for 10 hours or more, and sometimes it shuts down after 5 minutes. The only way to get it going when this happens is to unplug the power cord for 5 minutes, otherwise it refuses to start. This can happen at any time, during surfing, during game play and when im doing nothing at all. l I found on Corsair's own forums that more people had problems and describes exactly the same as me. The computer worked fine before I replaced the power supply to this one.
I have also observed that the temperature in the newest Link 2 software shows 15-20 degrees more CPU temp than the motherboard's own software displays and the value that is in the BIOS. Perhaps this is why the PSU just shuts down because off wrong values. Right now i am doing a test with the Link cable disconnected from the PSU and i haven't had any strange shut downs at all in 12 hours now. Yesterday I had 3 shut downs with the cable connected. Maybe just a coincidence.
Of course, I checked all the cables and also replaced the power cord to a new one. It only uses 300-350 watts max since I only have one video card and I doesn't overclock anything and all the temps are fine! 35-40 degrees and cpu temp when i am playing 50-70.
I think that the PSU turns off to protect itself when it thinks that a temperature is too high or some other values, which they are not, but that's a big guess.
Most likely I will return it to the place of purchase to obtain a new functional one unless someone has another suggestion?
