Corsair Force 60GB SSD

Hello Gareth.

I have a small question regarding my SSD. I've never owned an SSD before so I wasn't quite sure of what to expect.

Windows 7 indeed loads quite a lot faster than it used to and this also applies to the two games I have installed on the drive (SC2 and WoW).

But when it comes to installation of Windows updates and virus scanning I must say that those processes don't run that fast at all. Do you know why this is?

It's not than I'm complaining or anything, I'm just curious.

You dont have any other drives that isnt ssd, that might affect the virus scan?
Also windows updates have to be downloaded first then when installed, I think that microsoft have designed it to go a little slower but wont interrupt or be noticed while you work.

Virus scanning is usually set as a background task so perhaps it's simply limited by being a lower priority process, or perhaps its more processing-limited than disk-limited.

But if your OS and games are loading faster then it sounds like you are getting the key benefits. You'll get the best performance from the Force drives if configured in AHCI mode in the BIOS (though you'll get a BSOD if you switch from IDE to AHCI after installing the OS - there are ways around that though). AHCI mode will give you NCQ, and the Force can handle an IO queue depth of up to 32.

Also use the latest Intel RST storage drivers, as we've seen that these can give a very nice boost compared to the standard Windows 7 driver.

Okay, I'll try to find a way to switch to AHCI and also look for the Intel RST storage driver.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
