The new lines of PSUs

H Corsair!

I know for a fact that I'm not the only one wondering about Corsair's line of thought when it comes to the Builder and Gamer series of PSUs that's been recently. They both seem to be worse than their predecessors.

An example would be the CX430 and the CX400. The CX430 features 2x SATA, 3X molex and 1x floppy connectors less than the CX400. At the same time it it also 2 A weaker on the all-important 12V-line, even though the CX430 should be the stronger PSU.

I look forward to your reply.

CX400 was very similar to the VX450, and was actually based on the same platform. As such, desipite the CX branding, it was still a high-end PSU in effect, and it's simply not possible to continue to offer essentially a premium PSU spec as a value-focused product.

Since we already have three PSU ranges aimed at high-end enthusiasts, each with different points of difference, and feature sets (AX, HX, TX) we wanted to make a range specifically aimed at more value-focussed, lower component count builds. That also means hitting a lower price point, hence the new range.

That's not to say CX isn't quality, because we believe it still offers best-in-class quality at its price point. If you need a step up to the higher specification models, then that's where TX, HX, AX come in, but obviously you pay more for them. So it's simply about providing choice, depending on what you need.

As for Gaming Series, this doesn't replace anything in the current range - it's a new range. It's actually intended for retail outlets and is similar in specification to TX-Series.

First of all welcome to SweClockers

I think that many of us who are not only enthusiasts, but enthusiasts with focus on our budgets as well. It seems that you rely dont get the same quality/price ratio with the new Gamer series. To be brutally honest i have to say in my opinion it relay looks cheap, and not in a good way. It is probably a ok psu for its price, I cant say i know otherwise since i have not had one to work with. But it seems very far away from the products i expect from Corsair.

Over the years i have come to use a lot of your HX, VX and few form th TX series and also a lot of your memory modules both for my own rigs and those i build for others. The Corsair brand name is associated with very good quality, price, performance and features. Are you not a bit afraid that the new chaeper series will damage that very strong Brand image?

Btw are you going to discontinue the HX series soon and only offer the AX series? There are some rumors circulating.

Gamer and CX are still excellent quality - the aim is to offer best-in-class quality for their market segment. They are just aimed at a different market to AX, HX, TX. If you're in the market for a $/€50 PSU, then obviously an AX Series, or even TX Series is beyond your budget. So we're just offering quality solutions to people with different requirements and budgets.

Gamer is very similar to TX in terms of the platform and spec, it's just aimed at someone who wants a little more razzamataz (i.e. the lighting). If you don't want lighting then we have TX, HX or AX instead. We provide the options - you make your choice!

We may be broadening out the range, but that goes both ways too, hence the AX1200, which is the state-of-the art.
